Richard De Abreu Lourenço
Richard De Abreu Lourenço is a Professor and Deputy Director at the Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE), UTS.

He leads the Cancer Australia Cancer Research Economics Support Team (CREST) and is a senior evaluator for PBAC submissions.


Richard is a health economist with over 13 years’ experience in market access and reimbursement for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, including seven years as Director of Health Economics at Covance.


His work spans health technology assessment, preference research, and value assessment in cancer care.


Richard contributed to the 2023 HTA Methods and Policy Review and has led economic analyses informing public subsidy decisions. Notably, his evaluation of PSMA-PET imaging supported MSAC’s recommendation to fund this technology for prostate cancer diagnosis.
