Paula Lorgelly is Chair of Health Economics at the University of Auckland, spanning the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Economics. She is also an adjunct Professor at the Centre for Health Economics (CHE), Monash University.
Paula has held senior academic positions in the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany, and worked in the independent sector as Deputy Director and Director of Consulting at the Office of Health Economics in the UK.
While in Australia, she served on the Economics Sub-Committee of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC), providing expert advice on the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of treatments seeking reimbursement on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Her research spans health technology assessment, economic evaluation, outcome measurement and the determinants of health and healthcare.
Paula has worked across the health and medical spectrum, with a particular focus on cancer and, more recently, long COVID.
Paula is President-elect of IHEA, past-President of the ISPOR New Zealand Chapter, and a former national organiser of HESG in the UK. She is a member of the EuroQol Group and chairs its Population and Health Systems Working Group.
