Anthony Harris is an Emeritus Professor of Economics in the Centre for Health Economics, Monash University, and former Director of the Centre (2011–23).
His research spans econometric analyses of health systems, trial‑based and modelled economic evaluations, and policy‑focused assessments of chronic illness interventions. He has led major national research programs on health system modelling, drug pricing, mental health, and blood product supply, and contributed to cross‑disciplinary collaborations across medicine, addiction, disability, and primary care.
His work has informed health technology assessments and economic evaluations for governments in Australia and Singapore, shaping funding decisions and policy frameworks. He pioneered revealed‑preference studies of HTA committee decision‑making, providing insights into the factors influencing HTA outcomes.
Anthony also led development of the Disability Wellbeing Index (DWI), a person‑centred outcome measure for people with disability, and contributed to the world’s first guidelines for the economic evaluation of disability supports funded by the NDIS.
He has served on numerous advisory committees, including the PBAC Economics Sub‑Committee, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIS), and expert groups for MRI services, blood products, and veterans’ health, influencing national policy and resource allocation.
